The Latin root for the word “Educate” is Educare – “to lead out”. Lamps are recognized as symbols of learning because they capture this idea of guiding oneself and others out of the darkness of ignorance. Although I have been a professional educator since 1978, I’m still fascinated how teachers and students work together to “shed light” on topics to increase their mutual understanding. For me, this process manifests as both teacher and speaker. |
