I was drawn to music as a little girl, and I apparently doodled notes and treble clefs before my parents thought I had even seen notation. My mother introduced me to the piano when I was five, and then I began formal lessons at seven. While in college I explored other majors besides music — everyone said I couldn’t make a living in music. But music is my passion, and I kept returning to it. Over 25 years later, music is still my passion – and my profession! The lesson: follow your heart. |

Bluegrass When I was in college, “Bluegrass” music was a kind of hip new genre, left-of-center to the Urban Folk Revival. I was always intrigued by it, but as a music major I needed to concentrate on classical piano. I have recently started studying bluegrass banjo and guitar with Jack Tuttle, one of the Bay Area’s preeminent Bluegrass musicians and teachers. |

Ladyesong In 2005 I was accepted into Ladyesong, a small women’s vocal ensemble founded in 1995 by director Mary Elizabeth Enmann. Ladyesong enjoys performing a variety of vocal music, both sacred and secular, from Gabrielli to Gershwin, from Dvorak to Doo Wop. The group has shared the gift of music and commitment to the community in the South Bay Area for over a decade.
