UIS also offers the following program options for students studying at a distance.

CSC 410B:Internet/Computer-based Research Tools and Techniques
This course prepares students for online learning by assisting them to gain confidence using the Internet prior to applying to the online English Program. Students new to online learning, consider enrolling in CSC 410B: Internet/Computer-based Research Tools and Techniques. CSC 410B will count as a general elective toward the degree and provide skill and confidence to help you succeed online. CSC 410B, a 2-hour course, can be taken completely online.

AST400 Credit for Prior Learning Online
Persons who have acquired college-level learning through paid employment, volunteer work, independent reading, travel, or hobbies may be eligible to participate in credit for prior learning (CPL) assessment.  UIS offers a 4-hour online course, AST401, The Assessment of Experiential Learning, which provides a theoretical framework for assessing experiential learning. AST 300 The Applied Studies Term Online
The applied study and experiential learning term stresses practical experience and professional development for students by providing academically sponsored internships.  Students complete applied studies coursework online, participate in online discussions and faculty advising, and participate in field experiences in their own communities.  The applied study term is available from 2 to 12 hours.  For more information visit AST's website at http://www.uis.edu/appliedstudy.

Online Independent Studies and Tutorials  
Independent studies and tutorials are intended to supplement regular course offerings by further individualizing a learners' area of study. Students desiring to structure one-to-one learning experiences not regularly available but nevertheless relevant to their programs of study should consider registering for these unique and customized experiences.  These courses are offered for variable credit, ranging from two to six credit hours.
